This workshop will examine the responsibilities of both the supervisor and the supervisee in clinical supervision, applying an ethics template to challenges that may arise for both. The NASW Code of Ethics and the Regulations of the Missouri State Committee for Social Workers will be leveraged as tools to resolve ethical dilemmas in clinical supervision. Note: This workshop can be used to meet either (1) the 3 hour ethics requirement per licensure period or (2) the new Missouri requirement that individuals providing clinical supervision must receive 3 hours of supervision-specific continuing education each licensure period. We discuss the times when it most appropriate for a supervisor to "mediate" an issue v. "arbitrate" it, as well as when co-workers in conflict should be separated v. encouraged to work out their challenges. Participants will consider techniques to create a work culture wherein failures of the team are group problems to be solved, rather than a battle to make sure the blame doesn't stick on you.
