“Most Impactful” Social Work List Includes Many With Brown School Ties

Alumni; Faculty

Three current members of the Brown School faculty are among the 100 Most Impactful Global Contributors to Social Work Publications, according to a study recently published in Research on Social Work Practice. Several others on the list also have Brown School connections.

The report updates last year’s list and measures impact based on career-long citation data through the end of 2022; one of the productivity measures includes data from 2023. The lead author was David R. Hodge, PhD ‘03 from the Brown School, who is on the faculty of Arizona State University (and #2 on the list).

Brown faculty members on the list are:

  • Brett Drake (#9) Professor of Data Science for the Social Good in Practice
  • Melissa Jonson-Reid (#13), Ralph and Muriel Pumphrey Professor of Social Work Research; Associate Dean for Transdisciplinary Faculty Affairs
  • Shenyang Guo (#38), Frank J. Bruno Distinguished Professor of Social Work Research; Director, PhD Program in Social Work.

Others with Brown School links include:

  • Charles A. Glisson (#3), PhD ‘76
  • Virginia Morrow (#12), MSW ‘80
  • Louis H. Zayas (#20), former faculty
  • Sanna J. Thompson (#84), MSW ‘93, PhD ‘98.

Authors of the report said the top scholars’ efforts “have singled them out as leading contributors to the social work profession’s knowledge base,” and that those scholars “have achieved an objective measure of scientific impact and productivity that is notable.”
