Learning law and public health frameworks, JD/MPH are equipped with a unique set of skills to bring evidence-based recommendations to policy, judicial opinion and legal representation. Graduates enter careers dedicated to making significant change in addressing health inequities and disparities.

Program Overview

The accelerated program requires the completion of 120 credit hours, typically taken over four years.

You’ll enroll in three semesters at the Brown School’s MPH program. The MPH curriculum utilizes a health equity lens to examine and address the most pressing public health issues. In courses focused on advanced quantitative analysis, you’ll learn to assess data in order to bring evidence-based recommendations that best serve your client. You’ll advance your ability to understand and utilize complicated data sets, preparing to shape the future of health policy through data-driven decisions. A signature of our program is a commitment to transdisciplinary problem solving; coursework recognizes that the most pressing issues in public health will require cross-sectoral collaboration, and our students practice building strong and multi-faceted solutions

Five semesters will be spent at the School of Law, where you’ll focus on ethical and effective practices in law and advocacy. Through coursework and renowned clinical opportunities, you’ll have the opportunity to prepare for your unique area of legal interest—including Environmental Law, Labor and Employment Law and Social Justice & Legal Theory—among others.

There is flexibility in how students sequence the JD/MPH program, and students can begin the program in either school.
