Advanced Standing MPH Curriculum

If you have earned a bachelor's degree in public health, you may be awarded between 3 and 9 advanced standing credit hours for undergraduate coursework. MPH students with advanced standing status are able to complete the program on an accelerated timeline.

While the full MPH program is 52 credit hours, Advanced Standing MPH Students are eligible to complete the degree in 43-49 credit hours. A student  entering the Brown School with all 9 advanced standing credit hours is able to complete the MPH in three semesters (Fall 1, Spring 1, Fall 2), with practicum hours fulfilled in the summer between the first and second year.

Advanced Standing MPH Curriculum

Any Foundation Course for which you do not receive advanced standing credit must be added to your required coursework. In addition, Advanced Standing students must complete all other coursework required for the MPH degree (Research Methods sequence, Cross-Cutting Themes, Public Health Seminar, Practicum, TPS Coursework, Specialization requirements, Elective requirements, Skill Labs and capstone course).

Most MPH students receiving all nine credits of advanced standing status are eligible to complete the program in three academic semesters (Fall, Spring, Fall) and dedicate the summer between their first and second year to completing practicum.

Curriculum and required credit hours are subject to change.
