Associate Professor, Webster University

This lecture will focus on reactions to the pandemic understood through people’s past traumatic experiences and the ways they coped or recovered. We will consider how the ambiguous duration and broad impact – social, financial, already existing underlying stressors, and grief – can exacerbate the intensity of the experience. Based on an understanding of the actions of others’ trauma response, we can learn to better extend empathy to them. Discussion will conclude with an examination of how this experience can apply to future tribulations in life to further build our resiliency.
