Prerequisite Requirements

Students admitted to the Master of Public Health program must satisfy a human biology course prerequisite.

Students are required to demonstrate that their academic background includes a college-level human biology course with a grade of “B” or better. The course must address human biology and the syllabus should include study at a cellular level. Many types of courses satisfy this prerequisite, including anatomy and physiology or biochemistry. Courses with content and learning assessments focused in the following subject areas will also be considered:

  • Anatomy
  • Bacteriology
  • Cell Biology
  • Evolutionary Biology
  • Human Ecology
  • Pathology
  • Physiology
  • Virology

MPH students are required to remove the deficiency by the end of their first spring semester, though they are strongly advised to complete the course before beginning at the Brown School. Failure to satisfy the requirement by the end of a student’s first academic year at the Brown School (i.e. by the last day of the spring semester) will result in a hold being placed on your account.

Pre-Approved Coursework:

Students must enroll and complete this prerequisite in a pre-approved online or campus-based class course.

The Brown School has pre-approved the online course Ed2Go: Human Anatomy & Physiology

Should you wish to enroll in a different course, please email the course syllabus to the Office of Admissions prior to enrolling or your dedicated admissions contact.

After Completing the Course

After you’ve completed your Human Bio course, please send proof of completion to MPHprogram@brownschool.wustl.edu. Documentation should include your final grade.
