Student Identification Card

Your Washington University Student ID card is used for many purposes, including: checking out library materials; accessing certain academic buildings after hours; signing-in at Student Health Services; entering the Sumers Recreation Center; attending certain University events; and riding University Shuttle busses or MetroLink with U-Pass. Students may also wish to deposit money into a Bear Bucks account – a cashless system that allows students to use their ID cards to make purchases on and off campus.

The University offers the opportunity to have your card prepared in advance and issued to you when you arrive at Orientation. If interested in this service, you must submit a photo in advance to, along with your student ID number. (This number can be found in the same email notification as your WUSTL key.)

Your photo must adhere to the following specifications:

  • Color photo
  • Full face or front view; image from top of head to top of shoulders. (Wear a shirt.)
  • Plain white or off-white background
  • Cardholder must be the only person in the picture
  • All hats or headgear should be removed for the photo except hats or head coverings worn for religious purposes
  • No item or attire should cover or otherwise obscure any part of the face or cast a shadow on the face; no reflections from the eyeglasses that obscure the eyes
  • Dark glasses or nonprescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless needed for medical reasons
  • Photo must not be retouched to alter the cardholder's appearance in any way
  • Saved in the .jpg file format; please no larger than 35 MB
  • Please include your student ID number in the name of your photo file: Save photo using the following naming format: FirstName_LastName_StudentID.jpg
  • Photos must be submitted no later than July 26, 2021.

SUBMIT YOUR PHOTO: Attach your photo in a message to this email address. They will be submitted into a secure cloud storage.

If you choose not to submit a photo by the deadline or if the file you submit cannot be used, you will obtain your student ID and have your photo taken during New Student Orientation in the office of Campus Card Services.
