Inside the CEO Prepares Future Human Service Leaders 9/27/2016 Faculty; Community Engagement Share this Story: Page Image Brown Page Content 1The Brown School Professional Development series is offering a unique workshop designed to train current managers to become CEOs. Conducted over seven full-day skill-building sessions from January to May 2017, “Inside the CEO” features topics such as developing organizational strategy, effective governance, talent management, fundraising, financial management and executing a successful leadership transition. Each participant will also receive an hour of individualized feedback and career planning with the lead instructor,Barry Rosenberg, professor of practice at the Brown School.Involved faculty highlight this workshop as a chance for social workers to expand skills salient to an increasingly open field. “In the next several years, many St. Louis nonprofit executives are expected to retire, creating career opportunities for current middle and senior managers,” said Rosenberg. “However, new CEOs are often surprised and challenged by how different the job is from their prior management responsibilities. To increase the likelihood of success, aspiring CEOs need training before they take on the role. This is a great opportunity for those who want to be prepared and have the maximum impact.”The content of this program was developed from the current theory and research on executive development, as well as the experiential knowledge of successful CEOs. That leadership experience is exemplified by the faculty teaching the course, including Rosenberg; Olin Business School Adjunct Professor Al Kent; and Rik Nemanick, principal consultant and co-founder of The Leadership Effect. Nemanick is also adjunct faculty in the Masters of Human Resource Management program at Washington University.Participants will receive 45 CEUs upon completion of the “Inside the CEO” program.The program is intended for those currently in middle or senior level management positions in the human services field, or for in individuals in leadership roles within the corporate sector who are considering a transition to social purpose work. Registration is required by October 15, 2016.
