This class will introduce you to a set of best-practices for programming, data management, and data visualization in the R statistical computing environment. This class will be of interest to those who plans to regularly use R in their work, evaluation, or research activities. We will emphasize hands-on exercises using real data and featuring realistic data management and visualization challenges.

The book R for Data Science (2017) will be used as a foundation for class discussion and exercises; participants are asked to purchase this book and bring it to class meetings. Class participants should bring a laptop to class that has the most current versions of R and RStudio installed. If you do not have a laptop you can use for this purpose, please email us at to discuss options.

Prerequisite: The class assumes that students already have a basic understanding of R and are comfortable using RStudio. The Introduction to the R Statistical Programming Language & Environment class is appropriate preparation for this class.

Class size is limited to 15.
$650 General admission
$350 Non-profit/government employees (Additional Summer Institute classes)
$400 Non-profit/government employees (1st Summer Institute class)

This class will include both degree-seeking graduate students and practicing professionals. Individuals registering through Professional Development will not receive academic credit for the class.
