Statistics tell us a sobering story about children’s risk of self-harming behaviors, and assessment tools can provide valuable insights into an individual child’s risk of a suicide attempt. But how does a school social worker, or other community-based professional, best approach day-to-day interactions when providing service to a child known to be at-risk?

This workshop will provide an overview of assessment tools currently in use. We will discuss strategies for effectively partnering with the person who is the primary mental health provider when your role is not that of a therapist. Participants will explore the importance of having a protocol in place for when a tragic event (of any sort) occurs inside your facility or otherwise impacts your community. Best practices for communicating with and supporting your team will also be discussed.

This class meets the Missouri requirement for at least 2 CEUs in suicide continuing education each licensure period.

General Admission: $60**
Class size is limited to 70.
**Discounts on workshop admission are offered to the Brown School’s students, alumni, and field instructors. We also offer a discount to full-time graduate students in other programs and to our Washington University faculty/staff colleagues. No other discounts are available.
