Substance Use and Suicide: What is the Connection?

Due to the global health situation, Washington University is enacting a distance learning policy impacting all Professional Development offerings until at least Memorial Day (late May). We are currently working with individual instructors to determine whether each offering will be postponed or offered as scheduled in an online format. Most webpages are now updated to reflect this information. Thank you for your patience in these uniquely dynamic times.

Jenny Armbruster, MEd, LPC
Deputy Executive Director, National Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse

Preferred registration deadline: July 24th

This workshop will be conducted in a virtual Zoom meeting online format.

3 CEUs

Most individuals with a substance use disorder also experience other co-occurring mental health disorders, many of which can be linked to suicidal behaviors. It is often unclear which disorder manifested first, but the co-morbidities can complicate each other, leaving the person caught in a tangled cycle of self-injurious behaviors and substance use. Stigma associated with substance use disorder often further isolates impacted people and exacerbates their struggle.

This presentation will explore the connection between substance use and suicide. We will examine what the statistics tell us about risk and discuss how to address concerns with affected individuals.

This class meets the Missouri requirement for at least 2 CEUs in suicide continuing education each licensure period.

General Admission: $60**

Class size is limited to 45.

**Discounts on workshop admission are offered to the Brown School’s students, alumni, and field instructors. We also offer a discount to full-time graduate students in other programs and to our Washington University faculty/staff colleagues. No other discounts are available. Admission discounts apply automatically in your cart, based on your profile in our registration software.
