If a gay man needs to escape violence in an intimate partner relationship, to what services can he turn for help? What about a lesbian or a transgender person? Sadly, there is a dearth of programs at the ready to respond and prepared to be of service.
Join us to learn fundamentals of service provision for LGBTQ victims of violence, including an overview of appropriate language. We will discuss the unique needs of this population and practical advice for making your services for inclusive. The presentation will be grounded in a review of research regarding violence in LGBTQ relationships and will include available local resources and an analysis of the current gaps in service. This interactive workshop will include lecture, case studies, and group discussion. Class size is limited to 45.
