Dominique A. Horton

Dominique Andrea Horton is a Social Work Ph.D. candidate. Her research interests focus on the impact of race, class and place on the academic and social-emotional outcomes as well as the social mobility of Black children and their families. Dominique hails from the Southside of Chicago where prior to pursuing her Ph.D., she served an educator and school social worker for over a decade. Dominique is a nationally certified school social worker (NASW) and licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). She serves the mental health needs of adults and teens through her private practice, Becoming Therapeutic Services, PLLC. As a budding scholar, Dominique has won a number of fellowships including the Voices in Urban Education Doctoral Student Editorial Fellowship and the Pivot 314 Fellowship. She is a former Spencer Scholar as part of the Institute of Critical Quantitative, Computational, and Mixed Methodologies and a member of the Edward A. Bouchet Honor Society. Dominique is also committed to public service. She is a current volunteer with the St. Louis Public Schools and former White House intern under the Obama Administration. A few of her interests include providing safe spaces for women of color, swimming, theatre, music, being with friends and family and trying new restaurants.
