The issue of culture has been scantly addressed in the field of youth residential treatment. However, little research has explored salient aspects of youth culture in residential treatment settings. In this workshop, we will explore how trauma and grief present in residential youth, including a strength-based approach to non-violent communication. We will discuss power struggles and how to release the need for control, and methods to establish healthy, culturally informed relationships and boundaries.
This workshop meets the Missouri & Illinois social work licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in cultural competency/humility.
