Working with kids and not sure where to start? Wanting to use more play but are unsure how? This 2-day intensive training workshop will give you an in-depth introduction to play therapy. We will look at the therapeutic powers of play and help you to gain an understanding of how and why play therapy works. On day one, we will focus on directive play therapy and learn play-based interventions to use with children to help them express themselves and learn social-emotional skills. We will also discuss the role of a play therapist, including how to be culturally humble.
On day two we will introduce child-centered play therapy. Child-centered play therapy is child-led and can be an incredibly powerful tool. We will dive into the theory of child-centered play therapy and the evidence behind this approach. We will learn how to use facilitative responses in sessions and the ways to practice presence with children. We will also learn ways to use child-centered play therapy with families to help strengthen connections and decrease adverse behaviors.
Please note that continuing education units for this intensive training institute do not include RPT or SB-RPT contact hours.
