Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Registration deadline: July 25th.

This workshop will be held in person at the Brown School

Human sexuality is something all people experience. Unfortunately, whether it is sexual pleasure or sexual trauma, many helping professionals shy away from these conversations with clients due to a lack of understanding of how to talk about sexual content appropriately.

In this workshop, participants will learn and apply culturally competent, trauma-informed intervention strategies to common client situations involving sexuality, including those beyond cis-heteronormativity. We will discuss current terminology, gender-expansive identities, queer/non-monogamous relationships, best practices for responding to sexual disclosures, maintaining confidential case files that include sexual information, and addressing secondary traumatic stress. Participants will be presented with a range of dilemmas and engage in critical thinking about how to respond. Participants will then complete skill rehearsals during which they will have an opportunity to practice navigating challenging conversations using the strategies discussed within the training.

This workshop meets the Missouri & Illinois social work licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in cultural competency/humility.

General Admission: $60**
