The DSM estimates that as many as 1% of school-aged children are diagnosed with Selective Mutism. That may not sound like a lot. But, community-wide, 1% of school-aged kids can mean hundreds and hundreds of kids. Because parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals tend to be untrained in SM-specific assessment and treatment, those hundreds of kids often go misdiagnosed or without effective support. This program offers participants a detailed look at what Selective Mutism is, how it presents, and how to approach supporting kids who have it.
