The Brown School's Professional Development Program is designed to serve the needs of practicing social workers, clinicians, field instructors, and human service professionals. We offer a wide range of courses pertinent to clinical practice and social service management. The program leads the professional community in its commitment to innovation, renewal of skills, and integration of new learning into daily practice.
The Brown School is also affiliated with the Gephardt Institute for Public Service, led by Associate Professor and Associate Dean for social work, Amanda Moore McBride, PhD. As Washington University’s nexus for service, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service promotes life-long civic engagement and sustained community impact. The Institute collaborates with schools and departments to offer a range of meaningful opportunities for community involvement to students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
The Institute’s Community Service Office fosters student impact and leadership through co-curricular service including such signature initiatives as Each One Teach One and Social Change Grants. Washington University faculty and departments work with the Institute to incorporate community-based teaching and learning in academic courses across the disciplines, engaging students in both local and global service. The Institute also encourages active involvement in civic life through voter registration and education and the promotion of public service careers.
