A two-time recipient of the Brown School’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Anna Goldfarb Shabsin is passionate about issues related to privilege and oppression and their interplay with politics and policy. She is the chair of the Policy specialization and the lead teacher for the Social, Economic and Political Environment course. Shabsin oversees the university’s joint-degree MSW/JD program and is a faculty advisor for both MSW and joint MSW/JD students.
Shabsin is a frequent diversity trainer and facilitator at the School, and she serves as the university's LGBTQ Safe Zone trainer for faculty and staff. She has coordinated a Self Awareness for Culturally Competent Practice workshop as part of orientation practices for new Brown students.
Shabsin is also an independent diversity consultant in
the St. Louis area, having designed and facilitated workshops for many
notable clients, including St. Louis Community College, Rockwood School
District, Twain Financial and the university's Olin Business School. Prior to joining the Brown School, Shabsin practiced law for 10 years. In addition to her JD degree, Shabsin earned an MSW from the Brown School.
